Here is my list.. I just got back from a few bike stores and have come up with a list. I will post it up so i can get a few ideas from you guys and girls on what is a good bike for me.. Want to do north shore, drop offs, the whole business. Just dont want a high tech bike, and entry level bike. Components, not to picky on. Eventually i will upgrade them.

My list:

1) Giant Rincon
2) Giant Yukon
3) Specialized hardrock sport.
4) Brodie Force
5) Brodie Omega
6) Marin Northshore Trail.

The Marin and the Omega are a little out of my range. But i may buy depending on how they ride and the comments on them.

The Brodie Omega is the ticket, the others won't take the punishment, they are primarily XC bikes; you'll just break them. That said, the fork on the Omega is also a trail fork, not a 'shore one, But it will do for starters.

The Omega is a decent start and has disc hubs. Get the shop to put (Avid Mechanical)discs on for you at purchase and deduct the price of the Vbrakes (cruel joke on that bike). Spend up front or you won't be able to control the bike.

I think there are no pedals: go to MEC (Mtn equipment co-op and get Wellgo sealed bearing flat ones, $50 CAD.

The omega from the shop is 680 and is last years model.. Is that worth it? Also i was thinking about a Ruckus over the Chucker.

I can't do all your work for you. The MSRP for that bike is $679 Canadian, so I'd say $680 is out of line, but I don't own that shop. If it were me I'd offer him full list if he put disc brakes on it. Last year's model doesn't have disc read hubs though, so you're likely screwed there. He may or may not tell you to take a leap, as right now we are in the prime season. Back in January when he was starving for sales, you'd have been in better shape to negotiate.

Either of those bikes will do you. Make sure it fits. Check the prices on line before you go to the store.

good luck, Jim
It is a nice bike, and i do appreciate all teh help. Who knew this woudl be so difficult to find a good bike. Looks like iw ill be seeling the BMX to get cash for this bike. I wonder if the guy would give me free disc breakes because i find that exepsnive almost 7 bills for last years model.
I think

that getting discs for that reason is asking a bit much on a 700 bike. His cost would be-400 for that, and his margin on that bike will be less than 200.

IMHO I'd save for the right bike, and I'd spend about $1000 to get the right one. If you don't get it now, you'll spend more upgrading it to make it right.

The best value I can see from here at my desk is the Norco Bigfoot, it's about $1050 CAD.

Yeah, the bigfoot is an amazing bike. Am i lookin at the correct bikes.. Hardtail bikes? I dont really want the harcore stuff yet, i just want to be able to get out there and upgrade slowly you know, kinda make it like a project, as i get better, so do my parts. I dont think i should have an amazing bike with sick ass parts when i cant even ride it. That would just suck.
I gotta run but

Leave the 04 there, find the money for the 05, it's selling for $659 and has disc hubs already on it. So you save $30 at the till, and another $2-300 (yes hundred) because you have the right wheels and hubs. All you need to add are disc brakes/calipers. Avids will set you back very little and you can use the brake levers on that bike so that again lowers costs.

Well im off to one more bike shop tonite... I will have more of a list to post up as well. I was lookin at a few Konas to be honest, but they were like 750, a lot of money. I am probably going to stick with Cycle Path, in Oakville, depending on if this last shop is any good in Milton, hopefully it is.

I'm not has avid as you all right now since im just starting out. I want a decent all around bike, with good frame and etc. Components like hubs, sprockets, brakes, gears, cranks, wheels, i will upgrade once i need them and my riding become a lot better and intesen. I just want a bike that will get me into this and will manage until i start going crazy. Now having said that, post up some bikes that are easy finds in bike stores that are like 600CDN - 700CDN.. Around tehre for price range, lower is always good as well :p So dont forget that. But yeah just post up what you think would be good for a noob like me just getting into this, a bike i can upgrade as i get better.
Well i think im going to go with a Norco Wolverine. Comments on that bike?
