SScage? Others?

Tri-dog and myself are going to start at NM165 & FR445 (the forest service parking lot accross the street and down a ways from the Pinon Cafe - 221 Hwy 165) at 8:00AM Saturday morning and ride the trails over to FR 165 and then pick up some of North Faulty, Kotm, Ellis-10k, and head back down. Big climb, big miles. Show up if interested in some or all of the ride.

Will you guys post conditions? I heard it is really sloppy up there.

Will do. Thats sort of why we were going to ride Placitas first then ride up ...much better soil at the start and hopefully more time to dry the stuff up top.

The Ride

Well we got a good part of the ride in and we did a good portion of it in the rain. Due to a broken rear hub though, we had to end it a little earlier than expected, although we still get a darn good climb in. Trails were wet but the ones we rode on packed down really well. Here are some pictures;

I thought that those trails were wilderness, I live right around that area.
Are some of the pics from the Palomas area?
I am just wondering I don't really care if it is wilderness or not....lol

Nope, no Wilderness ridden on all. I believe you might be thinking of another trail than the ones the pictures are taken of??? We had to bail on Strip Mine on Tr. 51, then ride through the subdivisions. These are east of the FR to Tunnel Springs, but still in the USFS area - Boundaries are marked.

Palomas, yes. Plan was to ride down North Faulty then come up Madera Canyon which leads to the ski area - but hub broke right near the last climb up to the big Palomas meadow.

Are those trails near Otero? They look fun up in the trees and what not.:D I want to go ride them. Coming from Santa Fe where would i park? Or is this one of those areas that everyone gets in a tizzy about spreading the word?:confused:
Nope not near Otero. Directions for P-lot, and a picture of it are earlier in this thread. The trick is knowing how to string these areas together w/o spending too much time on pavement - which you still have to ride a good section on before you climb the 8-mile long dirt FR 165.

Pics are just of the good stuff, but there is a lot of road involved here.
