Pisgah Riders Wanted

1126 Views 17 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Marc985
Just thought I'd ask in here, and i'll probably ask again later.

For spring Break I wanted to take a mt. bike trip, so well...Pisgah looks great...so far it's my uncle and I going. Maybe a couple other college kids.

I'd really like to find someone to ride with that knows the area well so we can get the most out of our short 2-3 day stay. We're intermediate riders (cross country) I myslef used to race road so im pretty fit. We're mainly looking for a a good fun time, at a fair pace.

This won't be untill march so this is just a thought to try to find someone, in a similar skill level thats willing.

Thanks,

Marc

Whatsup, Me and 2 other guys are planning a trip for spring break to North Carolina, at first we wanted to go to Tsali but now were leaning towards Pisgah. I think we are out around March 18th or 20th. I too would like to find someone who knows the area who could tell us what to ride to fit our riding style.
Pisgah

Gaymen-

When you get here, stop by Sycamore Cycles (or you can google the site and bug the piss out of Kieth and Wes between now and then) they should be able to hook you up with riders, rides and trails to address what you are looking for.

So which is it, do you want to know where to ride or do you want people to ride with so you can sit around and talk about bikes all weekend?

Peace
Well....i'd like to know where to go, ride it, and talk about bikes all at the same time. :)

(the is going to happen around March 14th-20thish somewhere around there.)
Split your time

Marc

Split your time between DuPont and Pisgah in Brevard.

Ranger Station offers Clawhammer Loops of various levels and the Big M. (Black Mountain, Grass Road, Sycamore Cove) Probably 5-7 solid rides from here.

Fish Hatchery has some solid as well. Caney Bottom, Long Branch, Butter Gap if you have skills, Daniel Ridge. Probably another 5-7 solid loop rides within these confines.

DuPont. From the Guion Farms area...Solid 10 mile loop that is 90% singletrack. That's a good bit for DuPont. Lots of dirt roads to Buck Forest, etc. Lake Imaging has a solid loop that includes ridgeline and hooker creek trail, you can add rifle range if your down with the sickness.

DuPont from Fawn Lake. Solid loop of Reasonover Creek Trail to Lake out to Conservation to the left across the airstrip down to Fawn Lake, you can add on some side loops and lollipops from there.

That's 15-20 rides for you over 6 days or so. Lots of potential there. If your more inclined to singletrack, stay in Pisgah. If your bringing the SS, go to DuPont. If you want to Bomb down ****, stay in Pisgah.

When you come back next time, we can talk about Turkey Pen.

Peace

That's 15-20 rides for you over 6 days or so. do you mean 15-20 for 6 days......or 15-20 miles per day...cause im thinking i wanna try 15-30 miles daily. Although where I ride is flat compared to Pisgah.

I will help ya if I can. When you get your dates worked out let me know. What kind of trails are you looking to ride?
single track..the best pisgah has to offer...since it may be a once in a lifetime thing.

im used to riding 18-25 miles a day on a mt. bike....but like i said from the pictures i've seen pisgah makes the place i ride seem flat...the longest hill here is maybe a 15 min climb hehe.

Maybe a good range from technical stuff to easy fast paced trails if you know what i mean...

a good mix of good scenery, and more importantly great riding cant say it enough...single track is what we're after typical cross country single track\

it'll be somewhere between march 15th, and 25th most likely the first 3 or last 3 days.

Keep me updated too...

I live in WV but make 4 to 8 trips to Pisgah a year. I have a bunch of local buddies that I ride with when I visit. I wouldn't mind coming down to do a big group camp and ride. I'm familiar with the trails system pretty well but my friends know the Dupont and Pisgah trails better than their own families ;)

My roommate and I were there a few months ago, and we rode Squirrel Gap i think. It was a really good ride....we rode with a large group of locals and it was pretty technical and lots of great scenery. Alot of good uphill too. There are a few "hikabike" sections though...or at least it was for me. Maybe if you have the skills you'll make it through alot better than me.

Not sure if that's the only trail we rode, (i'm pretty sure we rode a bunch of trails connected together) but it was prolly 25 miles.
So far ive got about 3 people going well theyre maybes, but are VERY interested

my uncle 50

Brevard and Pisgah Forest have a few. A Holiday Inn Express, another one by the Walmart. Those are both within a half mile of the entrance. The Davidson River Campground is real nice. Shower houses, bathrooms, and potable water. Also, there is the Pisgah Inn above the Pink Beds on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Nice views.

Just wanted to point out that the Pisgah Inn is closed until March 29. Most of the Parkway is closed too, whenever temps are below freezing up there...

I live in fayettville and I love to ride over and pisgah so keep me informed of when you are planning on going. I will have just come back from overseas and I have only ridden in bravard a couple of times, but it would be awsome to ride with some guys that now the area a little bit better.
Dates? Times?
