Ping sound coming from CrossMax

My ridding buddy has a set of Mavic CrossMax (Silver version with flat spokes). Then putting the power down to the rear wheel you hear a ping sound every once and a while. This happens especially when going up hill. Anyone have any ideas. My thoughts were and loose of tight spoke but I have no experience here.

Bang on. Its a truing issue. I have the crosslands (with the straight pull spokes) and had the exact same thing. Stay on top of truing and it won't happen.

The reason it happens particularly when putting the hammer down on a hill is that most of your weight shifts to the back whell and you're applying lots of torque to it as well.
