Pics from the Monagas MTB Challenge Kids race (lots of)

Finally was able to get my hands on some pics of the race. As you will see the conditions were pretty rough for the young racers but they gave a 101% effort despite the weather.

Here's my son (blue jersey) entering the singletrack section of the course. If you look at his face he's in pain (hard to see) after a hard fall, he got hit in the throat by the handlebar. After some parental help he mounted and continued racing, finished 3rd.

Here's the Devil himself directing traffic.

neat

that's some serious rain. Looks like they had fun.
I love posts like this with little kids having great fun on the MTB. Perhaps the future world champ is in amongst them somewhere ;) I take the neighborhood kids for a ride occasionally and they love it.

Great stuff - Always good to see the lil ones having fun.
THAT"LL BE COOL?

If they were teenagers or adults, but kids racing in the rain NOT COOL! Especially if they develop serious colds or other sickness?

Local race with the under 9's. Going there tommorow to race, one of those kids is going to be crazy good when he grows up, hes been racing since hes was like 6 and hes now beatting under 15's! He I believe is 8.
Here they are, the race is getting bigger and bigger every round.

That's great to see other groups letting the kids race, the future of the sport is right there.
Understand your point but don't agree

Who am I to tell them that they can't race? Mountainbiking is an outdoor sport that's not postponed or cancelled due to bad weather unless there's a serious weather issue like lightning, earthquake, etc.

I officiated the race with a bad cold and it got worse afterwards and still fighting it. Did that stopped me from my duties? No, I love this sport so much that a cold will not stop me and who am I to tell this kids and their parents that they can't race because of the heavy rain. It's the parent who should make the call of letting the kid race or not and guess what, all of the registered kids raced including me.
Take a look at the beginner class pics here, these are bigger boys and girls racing in the rain too.

Tassels

I like the girl with the pink tassels on her handlebars. I've heard they make your bike go faster. ;)

Yeah, don't you know the ebola virus falls from the sky now!

C'mon, they're kids! They're resilient. I grew up playing soccer in the rain every chance I got. Aside from chronic chest infections and that third arm I grew, I turned out just fine...

Looks like the kids had a blast.
