I just happened to stumble across this in the camera shop and grabbed it.

Stuff it in your pack and forget about it. Weighs next to nothing, very flexible and best of all has a low profile quick release base that stays on the camera! I use to have to thread my previous tripod on every time I mounted the camera. Now it just slides on.

I snagged it at J&R for $22 bucks.

I can think of a dozen times I wanted to perch my camera on a tree branch or something. They even have an SLR version.

Our local (Nor Cal) REI had them in stock a few weeks ago. I resisted the urge because it was obvious my D-SLR would squash it flat, but it sure looks nice for a smaller camera.

I ordered one direct from their website. Cost about $23 w/ shipping for an unpackaged unit. They offer different ones for compact digi and DSLR's...
Should arrive tomorrow!
...then I can just mount the camera right on the bike for the helmet-cam effect...
