Does anyone have a good source for finding out when bicycle swap-meets occur in the philadelphia and surrounding area? I poke around a few websites but havent' found any yet that have regular information.

Swap Meets and General Calendars

The big swap meet in the area is at the Lehigh Valley Velodrome. It happens in the spring and in the fall. The spring flea market is April 22.

Here are some regional calendars for events,. rides, and races:

General Calendar:

http://www.suburbancyclists.org/calendar.htm

MTB Racing:

http://www.suburbancyclists.org/calendar.htm

Road Racing:

http://www.pacycling.org/BarRaceCalendarResponse.asp

I posted the racing links because sometimes races include other events (like swap meets).

I have never been there so if you live 50 miles away is it worth going for a look see? Are they any good deals on used bikes to be found? Is it mostly road bikes, only asking to see what happens. I went to one in delaware a few yrs ago and it was just ok, not too many bikes or people there about 10 people selling bikes and most of them were just junkie bikes sorry but that was what was there.

Velodrome Flea Market

It's big:

http://www.lvvelo.org/fleamarkets.php

Lots of stuff - mountain, road, track, clothing, etc.

The best advice is to get there early as possible and bring cash. If you see something you like, buy it then - if you wait and come back, it will probably be gone.

50 miles is worth the trip to go to the velo swap meet. tons of stuff. tons of people. There are a lot of private vendors as well as some large shops blowing out old inventory. The advice above is spot on.
