PG990 Lockring issue?

So I just had a SRAM PG990 installed at a very reputable shop here in town and they said they could not fit the lockring on.They had to use the one that came off the 8spd SRAM PG830 cassette that was on there previously. Hub is a hadley racing 36h.

No big deal IMO but wondering if anyone else ran into this.

The lockring has a thin metal clip at the end of the threads. After taking it on and off several times, the ring has bent and gotten in the way of the threads. I'm not sure if this is similar to your issue or not, but I'm using an XT lockring now.
It's a brand new out of the box PG990 (09 model) so I wouldn't think something is bent from taking it on/off several times since this should be the first time it was installed. I will have a look to make sure though. Thanks!
You are better off with the old lock ring. I'm using a lock ring from a PG970 cassette (I think, it's been a while). That lock ring is steel vs the aluminum ring of the PG990. I'll bet yours is steel as well. Much lower chance of stripping or otherwise mauling the steel ring vs the aluminum one. The steel one just threads on so much nicer. BTW, I'm using Hadley and Hope hubs.
