Has anyone ever used Performancefor mail order?

I noticed that they had a special on a seat that I wanted to buy, so I ordered it. This was a week ago. Today I go to their website look up the order and the thing hasn't even been shipped yet. I called their customer service department and was told that they have 15 business days to process orders. So I told her to cancel the order and I'll find a LBS to buy this from. She said that she couldn't cancel the order cause it's being processed. So now I'm pissed off! I sent an email to Performance telling them that their 15 day order processing policy is bs, and that I was going to discourage everyone I know from doing business with them!

that's why i don't order from online catalogs. You're better off buying from your LBS. You give them business they need.

unless you're a poor, poor, college student like myself and you need to get components for the lowest possible price. performance isn't my favorite place -- way too corporate, but sometimes they have the best prices and that's really what determines my spending these days.

Yep I usually do use the LBS. Problem is that there aren't many good ones left. We had tailwinds, but they are kind of sucking since Norm left. Them damn gnome loving mail order's keep sending me catalogs with "buy this new part deals" and I am a sucker for this

btw I have found out that if you do use mail order and choose next day delivery, that doesn't really mean that you will get your stuff tomorrow. They all have some sort of time frame for picking the order. Usuall some where between 2-15 days.

Cancel the sale, no problem.

By coincidence I got a seat last week, on sale and an extra 10% off. Came in 3 days. If you want to cancel tell your credit card company and tell Performance what you're doing and insist on canceling.

Performance=PITA

Sorry the transaction has become such a hassle, but it doesn't suprise me. Performance has great prices sometimes, but you pay for it by having to deal with the aforementioned hassles.

I have never personally had any excessively negative issues ordering from them, but I can't stand the local retail shop. More than once I've had to jump through hoops to get them to match their own online price, plus I'm always greeted with blank stares and rudeness, making me look in the rearview mirror when I get back to the car to make sure I don't have a massive booger hanging out of my nose. I never do, and I always wonder how much BS cheap tires are worth.

Good luck...

Was it a single speed seat? The guy who took your order probably rides a gearie and doesn't care for single speeders. Maybe an evil geared theory or something...

Just a thought.

I hate the one in Walnut Creek, CA. It used to be good under the old manager. It actually had a run where it felt like a good LBS. Now, they go down as the only store where I have fired off an angry rant to the corporate office. This is seriously to least helpfull shop I have ever been in.

Rocket, nice sig. I'm listening to that CD at the moment.

One can always rely on the MC5 and the Stooges, huh?

Back on topic, the Performance in Stockton isn't bad, yet. It used to be a rockin' shop called Delta Cyclery iirc, and I think most of the crew stayed on after it was sold. The one I have issues with is in Fair Oaks.

It's always a tough call when you want to support the LBS, but they mark stuff over retail so they can "bro' deal" you out at normal retail, then the chain stores and mail order have these great deals but you always feel dirty afterwards.

Funny thing though. I just moved from Sac (medium city) to Grass Valley (small town) a few months ago, and the local shops, Tour of Nevada City and Xtreme Outfitters, rock. They seem to have better prices than the places down in Sac. Go figure.

I'm having the same sort of problem. I ordered some glasses on July 21 and have yet to see them. I've talked to them several times and get the same story every time, "It's in process". I've always had good luck with Performance but I doubt I'll order from them in the future.

Performance..

I've used 'em once or twice and never had any serious issues with them.

Now, however, about the only thing I use their catalog for is reading material whilst sitting on the can.
