I recently bought this "Performance M409" used, just looking for something to use on casual family bike rides. I haven't owned a bike since I was a kid in the 90s and this reminded me of my old mountain bike so I went for it.

I've learned Performance is gone. I called the new Performance and they are only Performance in name with no records prior to February 2019. Does anyone have any information on these Performance branded mountain bikes? I can't find much. My searches have turned up an old thread about a Performance branded road bike and not much else.

I'm not a bike expert, but it seems to ride well. The paint is nice with only (Sadly) damage in decals. There is some slight rust in bottom of the seat tube near the bottom bracket. I've never done bicycle maintenance, but I enjoy tinkering with things so I plan to clean the rust up and put some new parts on it. Any recommendations on a new fork? I was told by my local bike shop I have a 1 1/8" steerer tube which seems to be the current standard.

As I make progress, I'll post updates and show my process if anyone is interested

Nice mid level bike, I own 2 sweet higher level M305s ... frames are nice.. great value.

Just throw new elastomers in those forks, it would be perfect for your use.
Buy them here:

Put some fresh brake pads and maybe tires... Inexpensive suspension seatpost would be nice... size is stamped on original post..

Amazon is great for parts... or Jensen. enjoy!
