First, read the post that stared it all:

Now granted, "russelr" wasn't trying to start beef, nor is my beef with him/her. It's the others who make comments with out full information. You can read my responises in the thread (I'm the mellow yellow there with the MY logo/avatar). I won't repeat what I've already said; but people please, use some comon sense!!! Stupid people piss me off :madman:

Itching all over.....

Thank you for sharing but I think you are confusing an allergic reaction for Passion. This can happen in certain truly unfortunate situations.

What do bike shops make the bulk of their money on? Parts/accessories? Complete bike sales? Maintenance and repairs? Or isn't it that cut and dry?
it's first parts/accessories; then maintenance and repair (that may differ depending on the shop); then complete bike sales; then other.

whoa, people still buy stuff at the lbs?

lol kidding!
Not many, at least not in my neck of the woods. The LBSs around here don't really bother stocking a lot of high end parts, because they know that anyone who's in the market for high end gear is clued in enough to know that they can get the same parts online for 25-50% of Australian retail. Their bread and butter from a parts point of view is the people with low-end bikes who need a new BB, brake pads or whatever.

As times change we have to change with them. I wouldn't employ a tradie who eschews power tools and thus takes ten time as long (at ten times the price) to do a job, likewise I don't see why I should pay triple the price for a new derailleur out of a misguided sense of loyalty to a pre-information age business model.
