When I was a kid, if you didn't leave your bike out in the rain in the front yard, you could generally count on your pedals spinning free for a while when you gave them a good whack. :p

If I give my crank bros a good spin, they do not have that low friction "glide/spin." That suggests to me that my pedaling, in addition to overcoming gravity, must also overcome the resitance in my pedals.

Is this just the way they are because they have such little mass? (As one person suggested.)
Could they be over-greased? (I don't think I've seen any really spin free.)
Mine have been like this since the day I picked up the bike.

Any thoughts?
