I'm in the market for a new pedal setup. I'm currently running a speedplay frog setup. I've been through several pedal bodies, cleats, and bearings and wanted to try a new setup. I am also running a very stiff soled shoe (Sidi top of the line). Most of my riding is aggressive XC (the occasional drop under 4' and some rollers) but I also need this setup to work for Adventure Racing. Keeping weight low is def a benefit in AR. Would there be any benefit to a platform type pedal i.e. candy vs. eggbeater with the shoe I am running? What is everyone's experience?

word about the eggs.. they work well, with two exceptions. If you ever mash your pedals on rocks -the eggs will release. Its part of the design. Hold a pair of scissors in an X shape. Imagine the top of the X holding your cleat. Now picture the bottom of the X smashing a rock. The bottom will spread and so will the top -releasing the cleat.

the other deal is the cleats wear really quickly.
