Paris Mountain question

Once in awhile I got to Paris Mtn. and ride Mountain Trail up to the Archery Range parking lot, then up the road to Brissey Ridge to Pipsissewa do the North Lake loop once or twice then back down to Lake Placid. Are there any other good trails there?

On the map I see the Firetower trail but from several years ago I recall it being gravely and kinda mundane. It also appears that you can't take make a full loop on Brissey Ridge since the a major part of it is hiker only. Guess I could dive down Kanuga for something different. Every time I go there I do that same ride, so it'd be nice to try something different.

Cheers,

JT

Kanuga is big fun. It's a great descent in one direction and a challenging climb if you go the other way. And Firetower is OK. I usually make a lap out of going up Firetower, then turning right on Kanuga and then left at the bottom to go around the lake. Take the Pepsi trail back up and you can go all the way to the road or turn right up to Kanuga and get another lap in.
+1 on the Kanuga; it's a great loop in either direction when combined with Pipsissewa.

Just like you I take Mountain Trl to the Archery range, road up to the upper parking area, but then I take Firetower up to Kanuga, left, clockwise around the reservoir, up Pippi to the Brissey Ridge to the upper parking area again, down Sulphur to the archery range, back up the road to the top of Sulphur Springs (because it's too much fun to ride down only once), then down Mountain Trl to entrance.
Trust me, it's a great ride.
Another vote for Kanuga - we usually ride up from the bottom lot (Mt Creek, road, Sulpher Springs to Firetower) and turn right on Kanuga - Rollercoaster fun all the way to Brissey Ridge.

From there we sometimes follow Brissey Ridge all the way down to the back road and ride up the pavement on the back of the mountain - the downhill section of Brissey is a blast, too, after the intersection with Pipsissewa.
Had a big time with my boy out there yesterday afternoon! Started at Buckhorn gate (upper parking lot) to Firetower, Big Kanuga (left) then left around the lake, backtrack to Pipsi to Brissy, climbed Little Kanuga, down Firetower to the truck. We took our time, took lot's of breaks and had a big time, under 2 hours . . .

We thought about going around the lake again but passed this time.

Had the whole mountain to ourselves!! Only passed 2 trail runners . . .

I was expecting a bit of mud, but the trail was really dry and loose . .. Looks like that storm on Saturday missed.

Seems like the OP got his question answered, so I'll just ask mine here as opposed to opening a new thread.

A friend and I are trying to plan a quick trip to the western part of SC. We are just taking two days and are planning to camp out the night we are up. What trails should we hit? We were thinking FATS, but to my knowledge there isn't any camping out there. Any camping at the Paris Mtn trails or the Clemson area trails? Is FATS the best ride out of those options?

Thanks

Paris Info

There is Camping Tent & RV @ Paris very similar to Davidson River in Pisgah no riding on Saturdays though....

Camping Info at Paris

no camping at Issaqueena or the Cllemson Research Forest, but there are some camping areas around Lake Hartwell so you'd be a few minutes drive from the trails Camp Areas

Issaqueena Info

You can primitive Camp at FATS ( you have to fax info to get a Permit i have the contact info somewhere...). Lick Fork has a campground and it's about 10 miles from there plus a nice trail loop or across into GA forget the name of the park but it's on Strom Thurmond Lake..

Thanks for all the info and links, Brado. Which is the better ride, Paris or FATS?

both very different a lot more trail milage (30+) at FATS, Paris is (16mi. with some paved road to connect all of the trails for a loop..... a lot more elevation at Paris. FATS is nice you can hit every trail in either direction and have fun on it....Dirt roller coaster.

it all depends on what you're looking for.
