I have a standard no frills blackburn rack. The panniers I bought weren't purchased with grocery hauling in mind, but I really have liked them. I bought a set of the Ortlieb front rollers. They are great. Not too big that heel strike is a problem (which is something I read numerous warnings about the cross-check),but sufficient for my commuting needs. Most days I only use one. The attachment mechanism is first rate. It's secure, adjustable, and easy to use. They aren't cheap, but they're durable and most important they are trully waterproof. Which I have tested a several times now. You wouldn't be dissapointed.

I really like the Arkel Utility Basket for grocery hauling. The adjustable hook system allowed me to adjust it to clear my size 12 shoes even on a tight geometry road bike. You should have no problem with the Crosscheck.

REI Novara Safari Panniers

I've got to say that the REI Novara Safari Panniers are really great.
http://www.rei.com/online/store/Pro...productId=47995153&parent_category_rn=4500848 they clip on and off real easy, just push a button and off they come. right now I'm using 2 sets of the Front Panniers on my Pug. Same thing as mentioned earilier...they are also weatherproof. I dont own a car, so i ride every where, rain or shine. Im using Surly nice racks.

but i hate to say, after all the bikes, and all the different set ups, BOB trailers, racks, panniers, messanger bags, etc. My newest set up, converted a bike to an Xtracycle complete with disc brakes. this thing holds up to 200lbs, and has VOLUME like nothing else on the market. it can even take bike trays and haul 1 bike on either side.

i know its not a surly, and i dont mean to highjack your thread, but on the lines of cargo hauling with a bike, there aint nothing on the market like an Xtracycle

I use an Arkel Utility basket though I had to drill a new hole lower down in the backplate. When the top hooks are aligned in this way the whole pannier tilts back giving enough room to avoid catching my heel (as it used to do.) It was an easy, quick fix. Swtiching to a Tubus Cargo rack with adaptors that move the rack up and back helped as well.
