Good idea

Good idea! There's some great riding @ Palm Springs. You probably already know, but, bring a couple extra slime tubes or run tubeless.

The Art Smith Trail was just closed as of Jan 1st for the annual Big Horn Sheep mating/lambing extravagasm, but here's a suggestion for a great ride:

Have fun!

Sounds like a lot of fun, I am jealous. I have never heard the name Moonwalk, is that the same as Cindy Whitehead that drops into Cathedral Canyon from Dunn Road? Never heard of Wildhorse either. Palm Canyon is an awsome trail and I would drive the 500 miles just to ride that one. There is a short and sweet techy trail right behind the water towers at Vons called Superman(ssshhh it's secret).

If you need advice or supplies see Glen at Velo Bum in Rancho Mirage, the guys at Palm Springs Cyclery are a bunch of wankers.

I was in laQuinta over new years weekend. Great weather/riding although a bit of hike a bike was necessary. I had no guide and no idea where I was going just a couple of suggestions. I started at the end of Eisenhower Drive in laQuinta.

From there I took what was called the boo hoff trail. not really a mtb trail per say, but it was wicked fun trying to climb and ripping down. in the wash below the trailhead are some nice cruising trails.

I rode Boo Hoff once as the last leg of the Guadalupe trail. We started at Pinyon behind the Sugarloaf Cafe(where Palm Canyon Trail starts) and rode 15 miles to La Quinta half of them had recognizable trail the other half was rock pile to rock pile through the desert. 15 miles took us 7 hours. What I remember of Boo Hoff is vast cholla cactus stands and fast single track through the foothills. Man I need to go down there and ride again.

edit: DO NOT attempt Guadalupe without a guide.
