Palm Canyon UncleMTB 50th ride?

1055 Views 21 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  Octane
How about a Palm Canyon ride to celebrate UncleMTB's 50th birthday in early February? Saturday February 4th or 11th? This ride requires some logistics, including self-shuttling, so no waffling. We had a great time last spring. Check out the ride reports, photos and videos:

50 years old?? That's focking old.

Where is this place? I'm too lazy to wait for the links to load. Will it be warm?

Palm Springs. I know that is a bit farther than Hogan but he is joining me in the "twilight years" club and we don't have much time left. It was 106 degrees when we went last March. Is that hot enough for you? But I doubt it will be that warm in early February.
Might be heading to Arziona during this time so it might work...
It's on for Feb. 5th!

The ride is on for Sunday February 5th and MTBBill will be leading us. But be advised that this is an all day and fairly challenging point to point ride with no early bailouts. And it will require quite a bit of logistics. So no wafflers. If you are seriously interested please respond in the SoCal forum:

I had the same idea to get away from the weather. It sounds like a great place to ride and relax. My research yielded a story or two about some particularly nasty thorns near the end of the ride I think. Bring Stan's,slime, extra tubes etc.

Dan'ger and I rode the area a couple weeks ago. You'll have a great ride if you go. I'd like to go but won't know for sure 'till it gets closer.

50 years old? Geesh...... I'll never be that old(again):D
.
I propose

a Bakersfield urban assault ride for your 50th Gary.

whatya think?
I hope to be getting my bike all packed and mailed for my trip to Copper Canyon, Mexico in Mid Feb. It'll be my 40th b-day present from my wife :)
Great wife!

Perhaps you should come on this ride to get used to desert riding?
tim happy bday!!!

i hope you get the same weather i'm getting down in palm spring right now...sunny and about 65-70 degrees. just spent the day in joshua tree natl park, what an amazing place.

enjoy the ride guys (and gals)....with the weather in the bay area now i think i'm into the road bike and ski seasons....
Day change

Seems some care more about the superbowl than riding so the date has been changed to Feb. 12th.
I'm comin down from the Bay Area, but am flyin solo (my buddy flaked out). Anyone want to share the trip? Split gas/lodging/etc? I can drive, and fit up to 3 more people comfortably. Or I can just ride along and share the costs.

Someone take me up on this offer, cuz it'll be too expensive to go solo. And I wanna go.

-Brad
brad, im requesting it off today if i can and i will roll with you. Im going to ask my friend razi if he wants to go also, and that way we got 3 heads so gas is split 3 ways ... i doubt he wants to go but we are still coo .... i got a friend in azusa (2 hrs from palm springs) that we can stay with for free.

Brad if you have one more space I am down. And be more than happy to split anything, even beer! Let me know I got it off.

This ride do-able if we can do a 30 miler out in annadell or a nice 25 miler in Marin, up Mt. Tam down Mt. Tam and back up?

I know the weather will be a LOT different.
the request is in, there arent many requests for those days so im pretty much garunteed in

brad has space for 4 comforatbly in the car (dont know how many bikes his rack holds) so if my friend razi goes you are still in baycat but thats up to brad. He was talking about leaving the yay area on saturday, and coming back either sun night after the right or monday. My only contigency is that monday = lincolns day, but the calendar in my house says lincolns day is on sunday, and the academic calendar says holidays feb 12 so im hoping thats a freakin misprint and we got feb 13 off.
Reminder

Just a reminder that this is a self-shuttled ride and if everybody shows up with a full vehicle we can't shuttle. There needs to be some empty seats and bike space in each vehicle. Hopefully since only a few of us are coming from up north the southern guys will give us a break on this.
I am still in if Brad gots room and it is OK by him, can take off monday no problem. What bike you bringing?
im goin regardless if i have monday off school, thats nonesne its the presidents birthday and i wanna ride dammit

as far as the shuttles go couldnt we just kick it at the bottom and someone who left they car down there drive drivers to the top?
