I have managed to wear entirely through the paint on the headtube of my bike and I am now considering a full strip and respray. Will I lose protection to other parts of the frame by removing the origional pant and replacing it with say 2 coats of primer, 3 color coats, and 2 coats of clear?

i cant see how that would hurt. be careful how your strip it though. how did you wear the paint?

I had a cable rub on the frame for too long. I was just thinking any sort of paintjob I could do would not be as strong as what the bike originally had

yeah im not real familliar with protective properties of paint but im sure with a bit of research you could fnd some that will work. i think bead blasting and or sand blasting can hurt a thin Al frame so be careful.
