Painting Rock Shox maxle lowers

I tried the search but couldn't find what I was looking for.
I'm rebuilding a RS Pike and am thinking about having the lowers repainted. Now my question is: how do I protect the maxle insert? And what about where the seals go, how can I make sure everything is still as it should be after repainting? I'm just scared of ruining the fork, as I don't have the money to buy new lowers.
Any thoughts appreciated.

play-dough huh, never would've thought of that. Good idea :thumbsup:
Weel, they do use something that looks like play-dough for any openings. The problem is I can't protect the plastic maxle insert from the sides. I'll probably have to let them paint over it.
