I've been biking for a while but I recently upgraded to a more downhill bike. Before I never really needed any pads or a full face. After racing down the mountain today on my new bike with basically no protection and a few close calls I'm thinking I need some gear. What are the best pads for the price. Looking to get knee and shin, and elbow and forearm. Don't really want to spend more than 75. Thanks

Agreed on Chainlove. I just bought the 661 comp pressure suit for 45 bucks, paid for cheapest shipping and got it in 2 days. Only thing is they may only have one color scheme or limited sizes on each item. I saw a FF helmet I wanted but Chainlove only had it in S/L/XL no M. There is an add-on that pops up the current deal on your web browser so you can monitor the deals.

I've noticed lots of people just get knee, but I could never do that. One pedal to the shin off a little jump a while ago meant I would never not have shin protection. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like shins are a lot more sensitive.

I really couldn't imagine running without both, but everyone has different preferences.

If you look around ProTec (owned by Vans) make some excellent cheaper pads. I've had a couple of sets over the years and they work beautifully, although are somewhat sweaty. They've proved much longer lived than any 661s that have come into my possession too.

Shins are a lot tougher than knees, I've gained lots of interesting scars on my shins, but have never been put into hospital aquiring them.
Now, my kneecap...

What do you guys think of Fly helmets. There's one at a local shop it's DOT approved so it's a bit bigger and bulkier but it doesn't weigh that much more, it does make me look like an astronaut though. Is this overkill?
