I bought some grips from planet cyclery on sale, and of course had no idea what padloc even was, just assumed they were a decent lock on grip at a sort of low price. So I'm looking for padloc compatible bars, and it appears there's essentially nothing for sale. Appears to be nearly dead technology at this point. I try to stay up to date on bike products so was surprised I'd never heard of padloc before, but I assume it was sort of niche product and doesn't really seem to provide much benefit as lock on grips in general work well to prevent grip movement. Is this the general consensus at this point?

No different then all in one Stem/bar- no roll adjustment.
May work fine with round grips, but for any that have any kind of shape you can't rotate them on the bar. Poor solution looking for a problem to solve.

Buy grips that'll fit your bars.

Pivot specific bars/grips AFAIK. Work really well, but limited selection. Have never seen them in a non Pivot application. That said, I have my pivot carbon bars just sitting. I actually bought the bar end plugs for them so I could run standard grips.

Look on Ebay for some Pivot handlebars. I have their 35mm carbon bar that's intended for Padloc grips and they're really nice. The grips add about 20mm to the bar length so my 760mm bars measure 780mm with the grips installed. Pivot also sell angled bar plugs so you can use the Padloc bars with normal grips.

That being said, it's cheaper to buy new grips vs buying a new bar. I shattered my wrist a few years ago and the soft part of the Padloc grip feels great for me though.

You can cut the bar ends with the requred angle by hand, get the padloc guide to assist you in cutting the angle, or get some Pivot bars. I actually have some Pivot carbon bars that I took off of my FB29 if you want to go that route.
