I got a hardshell cargo case and I'm packing my Santa Cruz Chameleon to ship.

It fits fine, but the packing instructions indicate attaching the rear derailleur cage to the chainstay with tape, string or zip tie. If I do this without loosening the bolt that fixes the derailleur to the hanger will it reduce the tautness of the spring in the derailleur? The bike will probably be in this box for four days.

2 choices.

You can either remove the derailleur by the main bolt, or by removing your derailleur hanger. Either way you will be fine and the adjustment will not be effected.
