Not racing downieville but want to ride down to town for the festivities.
What time could we ride from packer saddle on Saturday w/o being a Dbag?
The climb starts at 9:30. Seems the slowest riders should be past packer saddle by noon?

Anybody know about closures of trail or what's the deal?

We did something similar a few yrs ago. We took the regular downhill down, alot of which is unused on the Sat AM race. When we got to the junction of Pauly Creek the marshalls held us untill the majority of the racers went by. We were there for an hr or so. Once you clear that junction you could take 2nd down and avoid the course. If you do end up in the field please respect the call for a pass from a racer. But your timing seems about right. 2.5hrs from the start should get most folks up to the saddle. There is several hundred more feet to climb after the saddle with the new gold lake section.

looks like we could take Butcher to pauley creek to 2nd divide and only be on the race couse the pauley creek section. Maybe we can bring some beer for the course marshal for entry on the course :)
