A gathering would be awesome- if someone could transport me from airport to trail :)

My Vote is Tassie!

Canberra has some awesome riding, it was fun but certainly not the most fun I have had on a bike as it was a 24hr race :p ... Although I have only riden Kowen, I hear Majura Pines is great... Beechworth is also awesome laods of fun single track in the area- I had some mates that stayed there for a week or two and they just loved it. Sydney is good, very diverse, but everything is so far away from major centres.

Tassie- you tassies are sitting on a gold mine of trails, I hear Hobart is pretty cool and Launceston looks good too, although I've been to Launie, never riden there.

Well, if u decide to come to Beechworth in North East Victoria u have an MTB guide to show u around with local knowledge of stuff u wouldn't find otherwise. I put in most of the trails at the MTB Park and there are some other singletrack handiwork worthy of a ride. I'm not sure where most of u live but Beechworth is only 3hrs from Melbourne, 4hrs from Canberra and 7hrs from Sydney. I don't check this forum too often so reply to me directly at [email protected] if there's interest ! Cheers, Paul

Having moved from the NW coast to Launny for uni this year - it's actually not all that great. :(

Plenty of riders, but very few trails. Granted there are quite a few trails to be found around the place, but they're just not all that appetising from my point of view.

Up on the coast though - well that’s a whole different story - plenty of fun to be had! :D As Trevor would know there trails down south are magic too.

A Tassie gathering would be awesome - saves me having to book a plane!! :D

Cheers, Dave.

I agree that Tassie would be awesome but I reckon that it would severely limit the numbers from up here in QLD.
Somewhere central would probably be the go unless we can get hold of some awesome airfares.

Everyone to my house! :p. I will probably be able to make it, if it's within 1hour or so of Sydney.

I will also be heading down to melbourne in January.

Last years Sydney 24hour was going to be a small gathering, with Cul-baire, Trevor!, Alchemist, OZlongboarder, WOY.... all surpposed to be there. But Cul and Trevor couldn't make it in the end.

i think the main problem will be getting decent numbers. I doubt we would get more then 15 people.:(

This is a good idea. Ozlong Ive been trying to get you down to Canberra since last year when you brought my Burner over- I owe you at least a case of beer so hows that for incentive?

Canberra will not be cold again till next year and is sort of central (O.K I guess its hard for you Tassie and QLD riders). + the trails are awesome. I would garuntee everyone riding Nirvana at Sparrow Hill and for those keen for some big epics the Brindabellas has plenty of options.

As far as I know there arent many camping options close to the city but the Cotter reserve has a nice campground about 20km/15min car/30-40min bike from town. There is also a Youth Hostel 500m from where I live, which is 5 minutes from the city centre. Even better it is right next to some prime singletrack. My Avatar shows a dropoff I reguarly do 200m from the hostel.

Lets get something sorted!

So the ACT may be the most central with good trails. I ride with a few guys who do not use mtbr but would most likely come along.Would it really matter if there were only 15-20 of us, I think not.

Camping or staying in overnight vans in a caravan park would be the best.

End of summer....March?

and dont forget the real sweetner for a ACT gathering is porn and fireworks :D

Yeah 15-20 is a plenty, although more would be merrier. Once you get to a certain # on a ride you never get anywhere for the inevidable mechanicals etc. Fireworks and porn eh? Fyshwick is your place- 15 minutes equidistant form the Mont24 hour course and Sparrow Hill.

March is a great time in Canberra, usualy pretty dry and mild with a Euro feel with all the decidous trees changing color.

Sounds like with a bit more planning I might have to start saving the pennies!!

Holding it over a weekend would be the obvious choice, but I think if I headed over I’d take a few days off and make the most of the trip.

I’m liking the sound of this!

Dave.
