There was about a 300 yard section of snow on the south side. Nothing you couldn't walk down in a few minutes. I agree, the route up to French Pass would be climbable with fresh legs. How much snow was on the south side of French Pass? Is it just the remains of the cornice or was it a fairly large snow field?
PS: People (Not me) have cleaned the climb up French pass in the days before that trail got so loose and eroded.
