On Sunday 12/14 the temps dropped below freezing. We decided to drive up to Snoqualmie Pass on I-90. The lifts are still closed but not for too long I hope. We were greeted with 11 degrees with partly sunny to snowing and then blowing snow and wind. Wind chill dropped below 0. Too bad we forgot the snowshoes at home as there was enough snow to play in. Oh well, we are headed up there this weekend to CC ski or Tube or Snowshoe.

Today, after browsing that other thread http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=473737 this morning I just had to crunch some of my own......

Got to the trailhead and realized I forgot to grab my helmet and padded bike shorts (ride a 29er SS hardtail). Lowered the tire pressure to 30 psi (a new record low for me) and borrowed a lost and found helmet from the St. Edwards State Park maintanence crew.. Thx guys.

Hit the trail and took a few shots here and there (trying to fiqure out my camera). After a couple of miles my left pedal felt a litle funny... looked down and there she was...just a slightly bent greased up spindle. With my eggbeater lost in the snow I made my way back to the warm car.

Back at the car I realized that tree I fell into damaged my camera lens. It still works somewhat sort of but will need replacing......

To sum it up, the bad luck came in threes......

- 1 helmet
+ 1 helmet
- 1 bike shorts
- 1 camera lens
- 1 eggbeater

Since the ride all has been ok. Sipping a beer and the wife is making dinner. Now back to my holiday wrapping.

Happy Holidays

They do have great customer service

but these pedals are about 4 years old. I should have serviced them this year but, oh well, got a back up set at home.

It was a fun ride. We don't get packed snow on our lowland trails but it's fun when we have our dustings with sub freezing temps.... it keeps the RAIN away.

Thanks

Damn, I was just thinking low 40s is too cold to ride. Now I have to go get dressed and hit the TH. Thanks!

10 years ago the wife and I were there on our honeymoon and it snowed. We were house-sitting for my brother-in-law by Lake Washington and the only car we had was his '98 vette. Rather than driving to Tully's we walked up. Being from the midwest, I'm used to snow, but without snow removal. sand or salt it doesn't matter how good a driver is, you're going to get in trouble quickly. By the time we'd finished our second cup the snow had melted significantly. My in-laws today were telling us about the sustained sub-freezing temps you're getting. That's what really hurts in that area.

I remember the storm you are talking about...

We are supposed to have below freezing temps for quite a while which will break our record from 1990. When it snows, melts a little and then freezes again our Seattle hills just become unpassable and highly dangerous. Great riding weather before the snow gets too deep. another storm is coming in tommorow with more snow.... YES!!!!
