I am looking for suggestions for good places to launch beginner rockets near my side of town - north side of the Phoenix Mountain Preserve.

WTF?

(There is a park near the CostCo on the 101 where they fly RC planes. Not sure if that's the same thing, but it's big and wideopen, with few trees.)
I am revisiting childhood activities. The park is Coyote Basin Park and it is one of eight designated rocket launch parks in Phoenix. Thanks!
If you like small Estes rockets you will really like high power rockets.

There are monthly organized launches out on the west side of town a few miles south of where FINS is off of Rainbow Valley road. They launch all sizes, tiny to very large.

People are welcome just to go hang out and watch, free of charge. And you can lauch Estes there too if you want, but it's not close to PMP.

Just try to be sure there aren't many people around. 2 years back I got the itch to revisit rockets with my son. After many launches in our neighborhood park without issue (and gathering a small audience), we sent one up and the chute did not open. That little 12'' rocket came straight down like a..........well, like a rocket. It stuck about 4 inches into the packed ground. Had it hit some kid square on top of the head it would have been really bad.

You, being a lawyer, should appreciate the implications of this ;)

used to do those in the late 80s. We didnt always have money for a new rocket so we just glued fins right onto a C engine and set it off on the back patio. one of them hit the overhang of the roof and hung there because of the propulsion. when its stationary you can really see the 2-3 foot flame shooting out the back. I'm suprised theyre even legal in AZ because of the fire hazard.

i remember those estes catalogs.. there were always trying to sell their stupid video starring william shatner that was shot in the 70s.
