Interesting...

I got my hands on a d300 and it was sweet in functionality and high ISO performance. This one I guess has the same guts as the d300.

However, I'm still at odds on whether I am sold into the full-frame sensor (yet). It seems like full frame is best suited for wide angle work. If I shoot with my 70-200 on a d300, I would need a longer lens to shoot the same on the d700. I have also read some complaints that the workhorse 70-200 lens has some issues on a full-frame sensor such as fall off on the edges.

Thus, It seems I need a d300 and a d700 at the current resolutions of the cameras. This, however, would be a moot point if the d700 was double the resolution of the d300.

$3k gets you a d300 and a sweet lens or 2, but FF sure is nice for wide angle work. Personally I'm not to the point where that kind of coin is a worthy investment, I'm working on my lens wants/needs and hopefully in another 2-3 years FF's will be down in price - or I'll be earning more $$$.

Aside from my wife and aging dog, I've got four of these two-legged creatures in my house that are growing about 3" per year which pretty much negates clothing from lasting more than a year, consuming a ton of electricity, astronomical amounts of processed sugary foods and for some reason, have crooked teeth that will one day require copious amounts of cashola to straighten.

Had to cut hobbies down to one or two to manage the invasion of the two-legged money snatchers Since you have a Turner - all other hobbies take second-fiddle and can be discarded.

Im not down with what happens in Nikon land, but full frame sensors on the cannon stuff is great.

All the good quality cannon lenses are designed for full frame 35mm cameras. The 1.6x crop factor on the small cheap sensors messes up the focal length of the lens as im sure your aware. IMO it has nothing to do with shooting "wide angle" and has everything to do with being able to get a good quality L professional lens with the focal lengths you want. Bring on full frame DSLR cameras i say......

Let's just say I'm not married yet ... but the GF digs the hot rod and the cycle and she rides with me so the Turner is safe. I have a few guitars so I probably won't be getting any more soon - its the camera lenses that are killing me. She can't see the need for more than one, much less 5 or 6.
