I'm thinking about getting an iPad with the iPad2 coming out soon. How's the experience of watching video on a iPad? Can you do any light video editing on a iPad?
no editing -- horrible for many forms of video -- great otherwise

It works well for streaming netflix videos and other streaming videos (I guess depending on your connection speed).

I'd imagine with the ipad 2, the video editing will be much better since you're more likely to have videos on there that you want to edit (I assume there will be a camera, right?).

I've been using mine as a kindle recently too.

Honestly - wait for the iPad2 at this point. Watching video's are not bad at all but not what it could be. And yes, the iPad2 has front and rear (back?) cameras. The new Motorola actually looks pretty nice too! Much better for video - 16:9 resolution and HD.

I use my Ipod touch and Ipad to watch dvds I own away from the house (car, plane, etc).

The ipad works great for this. You need to use dvdfab to rip it to your PC, then handbrake to convert it to a file the ipad will read. It's kind of a pain, but nice to take with you.

As for video editing,
You will be way happier on your mac or pc, then syncing to your ipad. The cpu power to render or splice together things with a decent preview is beyond what the Ipad can realistically do. I run a dual core cpu at 3.4 ghz with 4 gb of memory on a raid 0 disk array. My renders still take 20-30 min per hr of video. So, do that on an Ipad????? It would be "go" and then come back tomorrow.

I love my iPad1 and love watching videos on it. The new iPad seems to be better for creating content, rather than just consuming it, but I won't be upgrading anytime soon. The only drag is the lack of Flash support. Hopefully when Jobs retires from Apple he'll take his holy war against Flash with him and we'll get Flash support so I can watch vids on Pinkbike :)
