Yeah, I saw that photo when it was the mtbr photo caption contest and could hardly believe it. I assume it's a busted steerer at the crown... I think he's even still got his hands around the grips. What a bad scene...

Is there something wrong with me if I can't help laughing a bit when I see this pic?
I don't think he's running tubeless the way his face is smushed around the tire!
OUCHHHHHHHHHH

I wonder if he tried to play the nothing happened card when he got up.

I know I would have. haha
He probably got up and said, "Well, I've just closely inspected my tire's tread and it looks good."

That looks like a BAD case of the Monday's! :D

I think he's got bigger things to worry about. . .
soooo THAT was what was loose and rattling....
The more I look at the photo, the more I'm convinced he's just trying to inflate his tire.

Good god! Did anyone at least ask this poor guy how the tire tasted?!

Not to mention how the other 2/3 of his bike felt slamming against the back of his head right after this photo was taken!
must be using eggbeaters, shoes are still clipped in,and he still on the same line as before, that's looking ahead, and following your line.

Dude in the bandana: "Ew... get away from me."

Lady in the middle: "Oh ****! Haha...."

Dude on the right: "What you get for trying to buy me PBR. Revenge is good."
for a long time I thought the tire he is attempting to eat is the rear tire of a rider in front of him. that's HIS tire? where did his fork go?

is that a rack on the back of that bike?
I'm surprised that nobody has given the photographer a proper thank you yet. He must have worked very hard to cut this guys steerer when he wasn't looking, and know to cut it just right so it would break in front of him when he was waiting patiently with his camera. I think we should all give him the respect he deserves for his hard work and dedication to bring us amazing photos like this.
Damn interesting way to get rhinoplasty. Much cheaper than a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon. Hope the guy healed up and got himself another bike.

The most likely scenario is the wheel is still attached to the fork and he his still holding onto his handlebars.
his face is like folded around the tire. that had to hurt later.
