Tree Huggers!!!

These guys are in full breeding color and sitting on branches 'watching their turf". This Desert Spiny Lizard (Sceloporus magister) is the rival of the 'push-up' lizard from my videos. These two, literally, brawl with each other.

This head shot (no crop) was taken a few minutes ago…June 14, 2009 @ WowArizona.com

Vertebrate Terrestrial animal Adaptation Feather Bird

This next 'tree hugger' is a arranging feathers after a bath. It is a male Broad-billed Hummingbird (Cyanthus latirostris).

Nature Branch Blue Daytime Twig

Lastly, WE DO NOT HAVE YELLOW HUMMINGBIRDS!!! This is pollen all over a female Costa's Hummingbird (Calypte costae), taking a rest between flowers.

Thanks!

The unique coloring is what made these pics fun for me, the unusual look of the bird. Since taking these, I've noticed a lot of them (hummingbirds) flying around all covered in pollen.

I got a bunch of new ones, this morning. Some excellent shots of bathing hummingbirds, showing a water soaked gorget that is still covered with pollen.

This female Anna's Hummingbird (Calypte anna) also has yellow pollen on her head and chest. Note how the Scarlet Sage (Salvia coccinia) is rubbing pollen all over her head as she gets the nectar from the flower.

thanks for sharing the pics and knowledge with us again and agian...
Apparently hummingbirds are total suckers for Cheetos.
hummingbirds are awesome....

watching them fly is like watching a harrier or an apache getting ready to blow sh!t up....ive got em all over my house(yard/neighborhood) and it never ceases to amaze me how they can be flying at like 300mph (input exageration) and then stop mid flight...look at you like "hey what up" and then take off like top fuel dragster....totally awesome...

Hi,

Here is part two, on our blog.

There will be several videos from which to choose, one specifically the liazard doing his territorial 'push-ups'.

Only a few people, we had fun. Two went riding on their own, we took it easy (shoulder trouble MRI at 2 today) and afterward we hung out and looked at nature. We actually ended up sighting and photographing a rare butterfly that is a state record. It will be included in the official state annual scientific compilation records. We never got to the movie...

(3rd state record for us and ourlocation)
