I've wondered before about a similar setup, standard 29er in the rear, and a 29+ 3" running rigid up front. With the idea that the bigger 3" tire would make a rigid more tolerable on longer rides. No idea how it would fare compared to a standard say 2.4" front 29er tire.That new 29+ bike is nice, If I new Tom was making a frame for a 3" tire I would have waited for it. I can't believe it's so light.

bottom line it seems is that running a wide rim, and a 2.4" tire (like an Ardent) retains a decent ride without making the front feel really slow.
