Not much chance for replies on a US site. Canyon is Germany based, with most clients in the EU.
I rode a Nerve xc (26" version) for 2,5 years, great xc bike. Just got a Nerve AL 29 2 month ago as a replacement. Great bike xc bike again. Fast yet flickable and playful. Have not ridden the 650b Nerve AL, but it should do the trick, depending on what you are looking for in a bike. What is your intended use?
We have more Canyon bikes in the house (Strive and Torque FRX) both perform very well at their intended use (endure and DH), so I think Canyon builds good bikes for a very fair price. Can't go wrong if you don't want to kill your budget.
I personally did make small changes to the xc bikes. Different brakes because I dislike the feel of avid. Set-back seat post as I like that position in relation to the pedals. Different seat and grips. All very personal touches, but that is an easy option with the prices at Canyon.
Canyon makes good bikes, I'm sure you'll be happy with one. I have never ridden the Nerve but I know a few people who own them and they are quite happy with the bike. I have ridden the torque and strive and both are also really good.
I'm stationed in Germany with the US Army and my base is about 2 hours from the Koblenz HQ's of Canyon. I was really frustrated with them for a while because I couldn't get an answer out of them as far as using a VAT form to buy a bike from them [VAT allows US Service members to not pay the super high German taxes] This went on and on for a couple of weeks, I would get a yes so I went to their headquarters to buy a bike and was told no. So, after about 2 weeks of back and forth they finally agreed to sell me a bike. I pick it up tomorrow so Unfortunately I can't give you a review yet. But I can tell you that Germans love their bikes and their seems to be a lot of good companies coming out of Germany right now. They currently cannot ship to the US but they have reps all over Europe. It's hard to beat the quality of bike they're offering for the price. Best of luck and I'll post a review as soon as I get a couple if rides in.
I also ordered and received the same bike. Nerve AL 7.0
Ordered via web site and no problem with delivery aprox. 5 weeks.
First impression is that seems very good. Riding is comfortable.
I didn't like saddle and change it.
Face some difficulty to adjust right pressure in fork and rear shock.
For descending is ok, for climbing also.
I planning to try in mountain.
Please give me your feedback!
I just bought a Canyon frame off the internet and am very excited. I have wanted one for a long time, but near impossible to get them in the states. If anyone has information building up one of the bikes, please let me know. I am not sure if there are size differences with components, etc. Any information you could give would be very appreciated. By the way, it is a 2011 Canyon Grand Canyon AL 29er frame.
