....I haven't posted here in foreeeever but now is a great time to start again!

After much thought and research I ordered a new OnOne 456 EVOII frame this weekend and it should be arriving within a couple weeks. Im transferring some parts from my current bike over, but others Im going to buy new to start fresh. Im one of those old school hard heads that refuses to go extrenal bb so Im getting a new UN55 BB to go in the new frame. I already know its a 73mm shell in the new frame so thats all good. My question is how long should I get the spindle length? The cranks I'm going to use are most likely going to be FSA Alpha Drive in 175mm. I'm going to remove all the sprockets and just put my Blackspire 32 tooth on the middle with my bash guard on the outside like on my current bike. FSA recommends a 113mm spindle for the crankset but obviously they are assuming you will run it unmodified. Should I try to get a 110mm instead to keep it tight in? Ill be running 8 speed out back FYI, and the seatpost on the new OnOnes is 30.9 to accept dropper posts.

Thanks!

On a side note, the crankset description says a 113mm spindle gives me a 50mm chain line. Do I still want this with a single ring setup?

I always assumed if you are going to just use the middle ring, you would stick with the spindle length recommended for a triple setup. If you were going from a triple to a double, you may want to adjust slightly though.

I'm rather old school as well, but I'm curious as to why you would prefer square taper BB/cranksets over external. I understand if you have an old crankset you want to use (I still have quite a few), but I wouldn't be going out of my way to find new square taper cranksets.

BTW, I've been riding an Inbred 456 for about 5 years.

Hard to say. The chainline would be OK, it's interference between the chainring and chain stay that could be the problem. Since you are only running a 32, I'd expect the 110 would work. Might be worth getting it from the LBS so you could exchange it. OR get both and return the one that you don't use.
