OneUp Components has attacked the flat pedals market with two offerings that are thin, sensible, and reasonably priced. Ideal for aggressive riding in wet, tricky conditions, OneUp offers some of the grippiest pedals we've seen in a while.

Mtbr's Take

We've been riding these pedals for a month and are very impressed thus far. The Alloys weigh 360 grams with a big platform and 12mm thickness at the axle. They are intuitive to use, as one can position the feet close to the crank with no obstructions because the inboard bearing is neatly tucked out of the way. The platform is big at 115mm x 105mm so the pedal is easy to find, but it is not in the way of rocks and roots since it is fairly thin and beveled at the edges.

On the trail, it is dialed and confidence inspiring. The grip is truly incredible with the long, ribbed pins so one almost feels clipped in. Changing foot positions requires a deliberate lift and replace, as these pedals hold Five Ten rubber that securely. The slips, spins, and fumbles found in lesser pedals are non-existent here. The pedal-shoe interface stays locked in the rockiest descents, as one heels down on descents and puts the heel up on jumps.

In the stock configuration, the pins are long and sharp. If the pedal hits you it will probably cut you. Also changing pedal position mid-corner is very difficult to do. But the pins are configurable with options so the rider can optimize for their style and desired amount of grip and risk. It's good to know that the ultimate grip is available if desired.

We took the composite pedals to Moab on a 7-day road trip and they still look new despite many rock strikes. To call this one of the best value components today is not an exaggeration.

Both OneUp pedals have a very subtle convex profile. OneUp claims that this convex shape gives you more grip and support, as it allows the pedal to sit in the natural arch of your midfoot, whereas most flat pedal riders tend to place their feet. The convex profile also creates the thinnest leading edge and the best clearance for a given axle design.
