I have an older Shimano XTR m-951 rapid rise rear derailleur with a worn pulley. I've tried finding information online figuring out which pulleys to order.... Don't really want to spend $40 for Shimano XTR pulleys if there is a cheaper method to get the derailleur working again.

Does anyone know if you can use a set of generic Shimano pulleys with this rear derailleur?

Lower jockey wheel from XTR M951 is on the left. Lower jockey wheel from XTR M985 shadow is on the right. With a caliper I found their mounting dimensions are very similar:

Center hole diameter
M985: 5.25mm
M951: 5.23mm

Width (including metal plates on the sides)
M985: 8.06mm
M951: 7.99mm

I mounted the M951 wheel in the M985 derailleur with no problems. At minimum this indicates your lower jockey wheel is approx. equivalent to a M985 lower jockey wheel.
