I ride a 2018 Trek Roscoe 7 and the brakes are not great. It has the std Tektro M285 brakes which are pretty entry level.

I have a set of 10 year old Shimano LX M585 brakes on my wifes bike that hardly gets used.

When I got the bike I considered swopping them around but thought that modern entry level is surely better that 10 year old mid range. Now I am not so sure. I am looking for opinions on if its worth the hassle of swopping them around.

Below are some pictures of each brake for reference:

First of all you need to understand what is not great. The first thing I'd do in such case is to bleed the brakes. If there's no effect, I'd put bigger rotors, if the fork/frame permits.
