OK, I'm fat and I like weird stuff....with that out of the way, is there any reason I couldn't put a brown spring for a lefty Max 140 TPC into a lefty Max 140 SPV?

In the manual for these, the springs are the same except for the TPC variant having an option for a brown spring.

You can do the spring swap, but you won't like it. The TPC lefty is one of the most plush and smooth forks I have ever ridden. The SPV has a pedal platform built in that takes some of that plush away.

I kicked myself 30 times a day after I upgraded to the solo air in 2012. I liked TPC (coil with oil damping) so much that I took my Lyrik and put a Smashpot coil in it asap. It's the closest I could come to the TPC set up.

Sounds like I should just wait until a 140mm TPC pops up for sale.
Finding one likely will not happen. If you are looking at a bike with a SPV and like it, get it. The SPV is not bad, it's just not as great. It's like TPC = "This fork is the best thing I have ever ridden" and SPV = "This fork is awesome!!"

Of all the older Lefty forks I have ridden the order goes:
  1. 140 RLC (Ti spring with Fox internals).
  2. 140 TPC
  3. 140 SPC
  4. 140 FFd
Lastly, I would contact Craig at Mendon Cyclesmith. Older Leftys sometimes have issues getting parts. He would give you a great opinion on if it's realistic to have an older lefty and service parts availability.
