Oh no! I can't get it out

Ok, I have a Truvativ Giga X crankset in my new Jamis XLT and I wanted to pull it out to check the torque on the swing arm bearing bolt. I thought it would be really easy, just remove one little 8MM headed bolt, pull out the crank drive side, no way. It moves out about 1" and then it's hitting something solid. Tried to tap on the axle, no help. What gives? Is there a secret to this?
