Well, I crashed over jumping a dirt jump last Sunday. Put my hands out and felt a pop in my right hand when I came down. I ended up dislocating my right index finger at the knuckle closest to my palm, or so i thought. Had my friend I was riding with try and re-locate my joint but all that did was hurt like crazy. So off to the hospital we went. ER doc tried re-locating the joint but couldn't, so they had to call in a hand specialist. He could not re-locate the joint either. I ended up having a metacarpel dislocation, the bone in your hand directly behind your finger. So the only option ended up being emergency surgery to fix the dislocation. Apperantly I did a pretty good job messing up my hand because the 1 hour long surgery turned into almost 2 1/2 hours. I ended up "shredding" (doctors exact word) three ligaments in my knuckle. Now the doctor says I will be lucky to get 50% movement of my finger back because of all the trauma caused by the dislocation. No real moral to the story other than don't crash. haha. Just sucks because it looks like I will be off the bike for quite a while trying to rehab my finger. damn, that took a long time to type with just my left hand. Stay safe out there.

Amazingly no pain after I crashed, but I think I had a lot of adrenaline flowing right at that moment. Also no pain when the doctors tried to re-locate the joint, but thats because I got about 40 shots of lidocain in my hand. The shots hurt like a ***** though, until everything went numb anyway.

Look on the bright side, now you get to learn to be a lefty! When the docs tried to "reduce" my broken right wrist I had already been shot up with something, then they stuck a needle down into the bone with another dose. Them trying to put the bone back in place is my new standard for pain, drugged or not.

I now mouse with my left hand equally as with my right, eat with my left hand, can write legibly with my left hand. I think I'll still right handed, tough to tell! Good luck.

Nerves Repair

Keep the faith: I dislocated my thumb 2 weeks ago, pic is on this thread.

I can (somewhat) relate to your pain & frustration. I lost most of the feeling in my thumb, but it started returning (slowly) after only 11 days. It's getting better each day too.

My injury is waaay less severe than yours, but the body is amazing on how it can repair itself from horrible damage. I hope all your rehab goes smoothly & you recover quickly.

Giving up riding is not an option!
Stay positive! YOU WILL GET BETTER.

Until you have a dislocation, it's hard to describe how painful they are- definitely not minor!

One thing I learned: Do LOTS of online medical research into your condition & rehab needed.Sometimes Docs are good, sometimes not.
Check out every option out there to speed up your recovery.
Get several different opinions from hand specialists.
Let us know how the rehab goes. Good Luck.
