Not all cities....

...have their heads up their asses.

Here's a photo of city parks trail sign you will not believe. Also, attached is a link to the city parks website for a video of the same trail. It's amazing. Here's a city consistently promoting technical mountain biking and not shying away from it at all. Notice the last two words: "Have fun," and that the city department is called "City of Prescott Parks, Recreation and Trails."

I'm sure Enel appreciates your kudo's of his video, does look like a fun trail, maybe it's due to the trail's location on open space instead of a city park or natl forest.
Well, that's been added to the shortlist of must ride spots!
Enel took me over here yesterday, and it's a blast.

Can you believe that there is a city government that informs people of the risks of their activities and leaving it to the individual to decide?
Too bad that is not in Socal......
Add another reason to the list of why I'm not retiring in California....

To be clear, the video is not mine. Credit to Ken Bennett (Kenbentit). The trail is on open space which is managed by City Parks and Recreation (and Trails).

It is so great because the city trails manager (that's right, it's his job to build and maintain all trails in the city, sweet gig) is a pretty hardcore mountain biker, and is passionate about getting folks out into the open space to enjoy it. Use it, don't look at it.

The city council is slowly coming around to the fact that this stuff will not be here in 20-30 years if it is not protected now. Large chunks of this area are already under development.

One of the greatest thing about the trails is that most were built by retirees 60-80 years old who just love building trail. They are like ants, if you don't give them something to build, they will just start going wherever they are. I ride these trails to work, and I swear there are 200 yards more trail almost every week. They have added five miles of technical trail in the last year.

Here are a couple of my sucky vids:

My skills are no where near Ken's, but my riding has dramatically improved having a place like this I can hit a couple times a week.

Nice pictures Enel. Thanks for not showing the pictures where I was too tired to make those climbs and lacking in game to ride down some of those lines. I'm hoping to make another trip over there before we head out.
Prescott is a great place to ride. I need to get back soon!

Oh, I'm saving those other photos for a special occasion:)

Call me before you go out there again. You have only seen half of the show, and you should see the rest of the trail, and it is not accessed from where we got on Wed.

Really nice technical trails exist ALL over SoCal, you just have to know where to look and who to ask.
take everyone with you.

Trail Information

1.8 mi.
5180' (low) - 5080' (high)
$2.00 parking fee
we have rode in prescott some good stuff. scary amount of vert on the trail in the vid. can you get more than 2000 3000 ft of vert in one descent in prescott. ?
Wow, someone actually posted ride stoke on the SoCal forum that is not ES TEE ARR? Only the stoke is not Socal and the OP wasn't posting to give stoke; not to worry, we have CalEpic moonlighting in these here parts making sure the AZ stoke doesn't influence the 10 peeps on this site at any one time to actually post SoCal stoke.

Impy where is ye? This might get out of hand.

;)

2TNE, sounds like you are out of town? I'm in SB planning on the Romero -> ECC -> CS loop. Then depending on the weather maybe a Santa Cruz Trail DH.
I hope the city council stays the course. We here in SoCal know well that what a city sets aside today they can sell off in 5 years to a developer if that developer puts money in the right people's pockets.

Yep. Here in Presskit until Sunday. You gonna be in town for Fiesta?

Finally started riding again last week. I should be up for some of the kind of fun you're having this weekend by Fiesta.

Nice! Great to hear you are back on the bike in the dirt and not stationary.

I may be up in SB for fiesta. Not sure yet. I'll keep you posted.

I just finished the loop but instead of CS, I rode down San Ysidro and had a drink at the San Ysidro Ranch. (I used to work room service there, served the original MJ there, Michael Jackson in 1985)
