Hi all,

What is your impression about the Norco Six 2006? do you think they are as burly as previous years, or the weight savings came with a penalty on that department?

I am thinking about buying one (norco six one), but i am doubting about the XR components and 7" rotors.

what do you think?

I think it was a smart thing for Norco to lighten it up a bit. I have a buddy that has an '05 and he was doing big stuff on his, but I haven't seen too many people really boosting on the six so the extra material wasn't really necessary. Also, it differentiates this frame more from the Shore line.

Beyond that, if the Six is going to compete with the 6 Packs, Coilers and Enduro's of this world, they needed to lighten it up a bit. Going away from the through-axle hub isn't a big deal on a 6" travel bike, imo. It becomes more critical in the 7"+ travel range and makes it more XC friendly for tire changes.

I think Norco's taken an already nice bike and made it better.....and more appropriate for it's actual users. You don't see many in the states, but there are a bunch of them in my area and folks beat the hell out of them.

The old Sixes are ridiculously tough and overbuilt. I have an '04 as my trail/urban/light FR bike, and love it. The new '06 frames are supposed to be 2 pounds lighter - still a surly burly frame, but not so much of a tank. If you're not planning on using it as your primary Whistler bike, it will be plenty tough. Plus, if you _did_ manage to break one, Norco has a great warranty department.
