I'm looking at tires and I keep seeing folding and wire sets... The wire tires seem to be cheaper... What is the difference between folding and wires?

wire bead tires don't fold, folding bead tires, well,, fold. Wire beads are usually heavier. The folding variety typically usues kevlar or some other supple material for a bead and it may seat a bit better into the rim. wire beads are almost always cheaper..

Most folks go folding bead, especially for XC or where weight is a factor. If you're doing DH wire is fine, but both types work OK. Kevlar beads can be easier to get on and off the rim without a tire lever.

Oh, any tire recommendations for sandy, rooty, some mud, wet and mostly dry conditions...? (lighter the tire, the better)
