I've just bought a 2009 Nomad frame and just taking it home (cradled like a baby) I managed to scuff the paint! Think they may have used PVA or water colours...

But I guess I'm going to ride it hard, crash and put it in the back of a van with other bikes so scratches are inevitable.

A number of years ago SC was gonna release a flat black powder coat as an option and then pulled it saying that their decals did not adhere well to it. I am not in the majority, but I love that plain stealth look, especially with the decals also being black for "ghost" effect. C'dale and some others did anno bikes like that that I loved the look of. One problem with is for a company is that it does not advertise well for them since it is hard to see in photos or actually until you very close to said bike. A certain shock manufacturer changed their piston body to contrast color so that it would stand out. Santa Cruz fortunately does not make their bikes look like rolling billboards like some of the big boys. Although their powder coating has been a sore spot with riders over the years it does not bother me. Actually, I like the look the black gets after you have been riding it. That scuffed up patina is nice. Then again what do I know? I am just and old punk rocker.
