Nimble 9 SS 27.5; questions on sizing and use

So I want to build a single speed play bike for pump track, trials, etc …

This won’t be a trail bike, use will be mostly park and play, goofing off in the yard, e

I’m 6’, 33” inseam, long arms. I typically ride a large frame (large Tilt, Sz 3 GG Shred).

It’ll be single speed and I’m gonna run 27.5 wheels, no more than 140mm fork, chainstays set as short as possible (415)

I’m thinking about getting a size medium to improve agility.

It’ll be single speed, 27.5 wheels, no more than 140mm fork, chainstays set as short as possible (415), high rise bars and stem, fixed post, short cranks.

Think big boy BMX and pump track bike.

Too small or reasonable?

Thoughts?

I’m 5’8 with a large first gen boosted nimble. First year they brought back chrome. It’s spent more time singlenspeed then anything. Myself I’d stay with a large. I run mine 28.5 with a 150 ribbon. But it’s also set up for trail riding. I also have a 2020 le large balance and new large tilt so

So you ride a large Tilt and a large balance?

Wow, you like a long reach.

Would you use the Nimble for my intents?
It almost sounds like the previous model honzo would work for what you want. It has a 68 HTA and short chainstays. It would be pretty easy to whip around a pump track. I think it’s 29 specific though. I don’t think the big honzo would work since it has longer chainstays.
In hardtail SS I’ve ridden a Large 2012 Honzo, a Medium 2018 Wozo, a Large 2020 Middlechild, a Large 2018 Pedalhead, a Large 2009 Monocog, and a Large 2008 Rita, some others too just can’t remember.

I rode SS for a long time, switched to muni, went back progressively added suspension, gears, etc …

I never had a Nimble, but I lusted over them when I rode a Redline, it’s what I want, I just need a sense for sizing and whether it’ll be an ankle dragger if I run 27.5. It’s listed as 29/27+, I’d probably run 2.6-2.8

I suppose a large probably makes more sense in the bigger scheme, if it was going to be a trail bike there’s no question I’d get a large, but I could easily see riding a medium Tilt if it had smaller wheels and it was set up SS. I run the Shred size 3 in short mode and it’s not too small.

Tough call, I hate building a bike twice to get the right frame size … finger on the button😲

The nimble is my favorite bike for any kind of jump line flow trail. I’ve also smashed it down Bennett gap in pisgah. So I’ve ridden on all kinds of terrain

I would probably go with the large. I know your intent is not to ride it on the trails, but what if you like it so much that you decide that’s what you want to do? At your height, I would think that the large would be a better fit for trail riding.
It’s done! Thanks for the feedback 👍

Nimble 9 Chrome, size large, 27+, single speed, red bits.

This is my first single speed bike in a while, not including muni; a 36er is my next purchase.

Now the wait, I think the frames are off the coast of California, here’s a pic my wife took on the way to Catalina:

I think I see your bike, Ben!
Sixth container from the left, third row from the bottom...

:)

All kidding aside, looking forward to seeing the finished product and hearing your ride impressions.

I’m just about the same size, tad taller, and I have a large, 140 fork and slammed chainstays.

I also looked real hard at getting a medium, ultimately the longish reach works well for me with a short stem and I think the handlebars would be too close when pedaling seated.

Jumps real well without being a DJ, although a smaller size might be even better if you’re only doing pumptracks and jump lines. I say try it and report back;)

I just talked to Lance ... I'm going medium, woohoo!

That’s too cool. Bet he lead you in the right direction for you. HardtailParty said it’s the perfect bike for single speed

I've never met Lance, but when I called this morning, the person answering the phone set up a two phone conference so I could ask him about it as he drove home from Angelfire (y)

The Tilt will handle big hits and tech, but it’ll beat you up more than a Lithium. I sorta wish I’d gotten a Lithium, but I’m pretty satisfied with the Tilt. I also ride a Shred Dogg which works really well for tech and bigger hits.

I stated slowing down on the Riot. I just can't take the big sustained hits anymore on a shorter travel bike. The Lithium is perfect for me. I think I'll still get a Tilt for the calmer trails. Most the trails I ride are tech so I think it'll be a good match.
