nighttrain/thunderbird sizes?

1336 Views 14 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  GotMojo?
so the shop I work at just picked up a few eastern bikes. Im thinking about ordering up a nightrain or a thunderbird for myself. Im a little worried its gonna be tiny (i think theirs just one size) the shop got a 26" trail digger and it is waaay to small for me. I am about 6'1" and all of my current rides are mediums.

I havent been around or tried more than one or two DJ bikes but I like them as small as they can be w/o hitting my knees on the bars or rubbing my foot on the tire.

what do you think?

I've never rode an Eastern before and all the DJs I have ridden have been 22" TT. Why don't you just test ride your shops bike and see if it fits? Do a few X-ups on the ground to see if the tire hits your foot and ride it around a bit to see if it's comfortable. I believe Eastern only makes one size.
we dont have one, we have some 20" and a traildigger which is tiny.
all their 26 inch bikes (iirc) are 21.5 tt size. my thunderbird feels just a tad short, but since it's my first dj bike i figure it's fine and i'm just used to my much longer xc type geo.
Does your shop deal with QBP? If so get an Atomlab Trailking.
yes to qbp, why the atomlab? looks a lot the same

the dealer prices are a little better than what you can get those bikes for, on top of that eastern seems like they have good employee purchase rates.

the DJ bike I have now has a 22.75 top tube. the traildigger and nigtrain are both about 21.75. The only other bike I have any kind of feel for are DNA's the small, which is too small is 22" and the medium which is the fit im looking for is 23". from this I have learned the TT lengths dont really mean ****

That is why I would get Atomlab over Eastern. I've seen Eastern frames break and crack exactly how these pictures show. Also when my bike shop tried to claim the warranty for the customer they literally blew us off and told us that the customer was obviously doing something wrong. The customer only weighs in at a whopping 96lbs and nothing else on his bike was broken or bent. After Easterns horrible customer service and non-caring attitude I will no longer purchase their product.
wow I should have checked my thread. haha but they are giving these things away on qbp right now something like 25% off wholesale. So I got a purple nighttrain I love it, hopefully it doesnt brake in half.

I am coming from a pretty outdated park bike in a size long I am a bit over 6'. The eastern is so tiny but just big enough that its not a problem for me and that was exactly what I was looking for.
I really like the Purple Nighttrains, grats man.

That sucks that you felt blown off. Eastern owner Leigh Ramsdell has been an awesome guy in the BMX scene since the 80's when I started riding. I am sure he would be pissed if one of his employees gave some bad customer service. I would hope you would give them another shot.......

..... NOW... was that 20" one of their entry level completes? If so it is unfair to compare that bike to a Nighttrain or Thunderbird. The entry level completes are not full 4130 chromoly. The Nighttrain and Thunderbird are. BIG DIFFERENCE.

Do you have to be a dealer to purchase from QBP? The place is 15 minutes from my house and I want to pick up a nighttrain but saving money is always a good thing
i got a black 09 for 950 shipped, but cant find the site anymore...jenson has the purple for 935 it looks like right now, quite a deal as thats what 08s are going for elswhere
Yeah, the cheapest I can find in my area is a closeout 08 for 1065 after taxes and everything. I like supporting the local shops but I dont like paying their prices
i do all my own wrenching, not a big fan of my local shops
