Now that it's getting darker earlier, I would like to go for a ride after work. Are there any places where you can ride at night in Santa Cruz? It seems that most of the trails say that they are closed at dusk.

i ride at night at the same places i ride during the day. I've never had any problems. you may run into people the inhabit the woods though...

I've never been stopped at Wilder or Nisene. I just make sure to park outside the parks and ride in. The stuff along Skyline's definitely patrolled, though. I had a ranger waiting at my car the only time I rode after dark up there. But I was friendly and he was friendly and I didn't even get a warning, much less a ticket. YMMV

You are not kidding, either. I rode SC last night for the first time in years, and holy wow. The amount of ground-dwellers creeping in and out of the bushes in the darkness was unnerving.

Night-riding at UCSC upper campus seems to be popular. I've only done it in the context of commuting.
