Hello everyone!

My name is David and I wanted to let you know that my pals and I are starting a new Denver Bike Shop!

I'm sure we have seen each other at some point in time, either out on the road or trail, and I might have even serviced your bike at one of the shops I have worked at..... here's the skinny..

Thousands of wheels and pro bikes built & fit, hundreds of suspension o'hauls, almost 60 years combined experience in the Denver cycling community, employee owned (you know we will bust our arse for YOU).....all that and only 3 dudes!

We are very excited to have one of our dreams materialize! Thanks to all for your past support and we will be sure to be in touch!

Opening 1st week of March:

Breaking into the marketplace

I'll echo the "Good luck!" here.
You're getting into a tough market. Your years of experience will absolutely be an asset. Be sure to post some signs in your shop attesting to your expertise, so customers are reassured you know what you're talking about.
Get the word out (here and elsewhere on the internet - i.e. web page) about what brands and the types of bikes you have in inventory. Offer excellent service, of course!
Perhaps do some extra things -- like sponsor a weekly shop ride (if you can't spare the staff, ask some friends to lead the rides on your behalf); or offer an occasional course on basic bike maintenance; or look for an elementary school in your neighborhood willing to work with you to sponsor a spring weekend "Get your bike out of the basement and ready to ride!" workshop; work with your manufacturers' reps to sponsor a bike demo day. All these things will help put you on the map and build a loyal customer base.
I hope you're still around in ten years to put up another post telling the world what a great experience you've had in the business!

I googled your shop location. Are you on the east or west side of Broadway...possibly in the Daryl Toys and Collectibles location?

Back parking lot looks like a great place to lay out a street course for a fun local contest.:p

Good luck guys!

Thanks for all the helpful tips....we are definitely trying to utilize the internet and it's massive potential of advertising and spreading the news. We are going to have shop rides every week if possible, Sunday morning road and a weekday mountain. We will also have a full line of demo road and mountain bikes. Sponsoring a school or being involved with the kids community is an excellent idea. Thanks again!

We are on the west side of the road in the green building next to Darrell's toys...the old tax business. The back parking lot is sweet, we will have designated spots back there. We also have one of the warehouse buildings connected to the lot that will serve as our "Service Building". On nice days, we will have the dock door open with a lounging area on the dock....ahhh riding bikes, sippin beer and sunny Colorado days...so close! (and of course we can layout a fun track at some point to show your mad skills)

Wow! That sounds absolutely amazing! Too bad there isn't a shop like that here in the Springs; I'll have to get up to Denver.
Best of luck!

Hi Dave,

I wish you and your partners the best of luck. I hope that you're able to build a strong reputation and a solid biz. I don't make it into Denver very often, but if I have the chance I'll stop on in this summer.

Be good & ride hard

Yes, best of luck.
A visit to your shop is now on my to-do list.

uhmmm....yep....i'll be stoppin by!
Thanks everyone for your encouraging words. We are very excited to be opening soon....

oh and my good friend who works at Wynkoop Brewery vowed to never let us run out of beer....score!!

Just wanted to add a quick tidbit too.. We will strive to be a zero waste shop, recycling all of our oil, cardboard, plastics, and metals. We are going to use an industrial ultrasonic cleaner that essentially uses diluted simple green to get parts super shiny (no harsh solvents). It will also work wonders for old sticky shimano shifters!
Dave,

Congrats and Good luck to you and your partners, will come and visit you soon!!!
What brands are you going with?
ROCK on!
neehoya:

Thanks! I look forward to meeting you.

Brands: We will have Time, Wilier, Eddy Merckx, Masi, Van Dessel and Intense. We are looking to pick up another strong mtb line to compliment our road selection. We will also have full line of demos.

We just received our HUGE industrial ultrasonic cleaner today and starting to give it the torture test. We are super impressed with the results and will post some pics in the near future. Green technology is sweet!

On a side note....you gotta love craigslist. Scored a sweet little kegerater for $20!! I'm thinking our service counter needs a tap...hmmmm
I think I have heard that somewhere, "Nice bike, wanna ride?" as a sexual pickup line.

Do you have a BYOB happy hour on Thursdays?
Congrats Dave! I wish you folks the best and you can believe I will be stopping in for a beer soon.

Lidarman: Wow! Did I just get hit on?? :ciappa: lol

Karate Chicken: Man, that is quite a line up...almost looks like a unicorn threw up on a rainbow or visa versa. Looks like a fun shop!

Mordeci: Thanks! Can't wait to show you the shop :cornut:

It's actually the butt of many jokes in Southern California, even from the fixed gear people. Unicorn barf is a kind descriptor of what some lifted truck, monster energy drinking, flatbill-wearing bros think a bicycle is. They jumped the shark even before opening. I'm not sure what keeps them in business, maybe they are a front for laundering meth money?

BTW, I'll have to roll down to your shop onea these days because you at least have a sense of humor.
