a rear der. Nexave C505 VS an alivio, which is better?

the bike would be used on cyclepath only.. (for my dad who rides to work)

For just what your dad will be using it for, it is fine. I wouldn't bother "upgrading" from one to the other. Even if your dad had an XTR derailleur, he wouldn't notice a difference.

oh i know it's just that he's looking at bikes and sorta narrowed it down to either one all equipped with nexave (devinci liverpool) or either a KHS eastwood which has alivio stuff..

I guess thats a toss-up! I'd go with whichever one cost more, it's probably better.

the devinci is a little more $$ and is equipped with nexave all around.. crank front and rear der, shifters, brakes,....
