Well I have had a GT i-Drive 6.0 for a few years but recently have been getting more serious about riding. The stock components that came with this bike were ok when I was getting into trail riding and eventhough none of them have broken they are less than stellar.

I currently have:

Shimano Acera Levers/shifters
Shimano Acera Rear Derailer
Shimano Avilio Front Derailer
Suntour Front fork
Suntour Crankset
Various other components that are generic
Shimano clipless pedals

I like the bike but it is time for some upgrades. I know that I need to get a new crankset and derailers. I also know that the stock fork and rear shock have too much play which has made it difficult for me to really dig into some soft shoulders and such on trails.

This is what I am thinking for upgrades. I welcome any suggestion or feedback.

SHIMANO XT M760 FRONT DERAILLEUR

SHIMANO CN-7701 9SP CHAIN
SHIMANO XT M760 CRANKSET

ROCKSHOX PILOT C FORK '03 OE

I need suggestions on which hubs/wheelsets, rear shock and any other requirements I might have missed that I should get.

Also is there a place that might provide some or most of these components (cranksets etc) in a kit?

Did you look at going the sram route for your drivetrain?

consider cost benefit of upgrade vs new bike

I think you would be very happy with the parts listed (I would personally go the SRAM route as mentioned...better performance IMO), however, you may want to consider the cost benefit of putting these parts on the I-drive 6.0 frame.

I did a quick estimate (based on Comparision pricing (http://www.comparisonpricing.com/))you are looking at least $800 for the parts listed (including fork) and if you add wheels and the rear shock you could easily be in excess of $1200 or more. Thats a lot to spend on a several year old frame. It will cost more than $1200 to get a full XT new bike, but you can get close plus you probably can get a fork a little better than the Pilot and a new frame.

Don't get me wrong, the upgrade route is a lot of fun, you just need to decide if the frame is worth spending the money on.
